Who Is The Board of Peace?
After two years of genocide by the Zionist war machine, the very architects and enablers of these war crimes now have the audacity to pose as ‘peacemakers’. The American empire, chief patron of ‘Israel’s’ brutal campaign, dares to propose a so-called “Board of Peace” to rule Gaza in the genocide’s aftermath.
It was U.S. weapons, money, and diplomatic cover that enabled ‘Israel’s’ bloody campaign. The American empire stood by, vetoing ceasefires and arming the occupation, as Gaza was turned into scorched earth. Now, under the guise of a ‘so-called’ ceasefire, in which Zionist forces have continued their genocidal campaign, the U.S. wants to “manage” what they helped destroy. For two years, Gaza has endured a living nightmare. Zionist force, backed and armed by the United States, reduced whole neighborhoods to rubble, slaughtering civilians on a massive scale. Independent researchers estimate the death toll in Gaza exceeds 300,000 killed. Entire families have been wiped out and countless children lie beneath the ruins. International human rights groups, Muslim leaders, and conscientious observers worldwide have decried this campaign as genocide
And yet, after inflicting this horror, Washington has the gall to present itself as savior. It was U.S. weapons, money, and diplomatic cover that enabled the Israeli occupation’s bloody campaign. The American empire stood by, blocking ceasefires and arming the occupier, as Gaza was turned to rubble. Now that the resistance of Gaza’s people, steadfast in their faith and sacrifice, forced a halt to full-scale bombardment, the U.S. proconsuls arrive to “manage” what they helped destroy. This is an insult atop injury, a continuation of oppression by other means.
Donald Trump, embodying American arrogance, unveiled his “Board of Peace” as if it were a gift to Palestinians. In truth, it is a grotesque neo-colonial farce. Under Trump’s plan, Gaza’s future will be overseen by three entities that exclude the very people of Gaza from real power:
The Board of Peace (Main Council): Chaired for life by Trump himself, this main board is supposed to “focus on governance capacity-building, regional relations, reconstruction, investment” and so on. In practice, it is a handpicked club of outsiders. Members include Trump’s cronies and loyalists, from Marco Rubio (U.S. Secretary of State under Trump) to Jared Kushner, alongside a smattering of international figures like former British PM Tony Blair. Tellingly, not a single Palestinian voice sits on this board. (Trump has invited dozens of world leaders to join, and those who pony up $1 billion each can buy themselves permanent seats at the table.) This isn’t peacebuilding; it’s pay-to-play colonialism.
Palestinian Technocratic Committee: To create a fig leaf of local involvement, a “National Committee for the Administration of Gaza” was formed, essentially a technocratic caretaker government of Palestinian professionals. It is meant to oversee daily governance and public services in Gaza. This 15-member committee is headed by Dr. Ali Shaath, a former Palestinian Authority official. But make no mistake: this body is subordinate. It has no sovereignty and operates under the watchful eyes of Trump’s board and foreign “advisers”. It’s administration without real authority, reminiscent of colonial administrators who answered to imperial governors.
Gaza “Executive Board” (Advisory Panel): An 11-member international board is tasked with “supporting effective governance” and assisting in Gaza’s reconstruction. This so-called executive board is a motley assortment of foreign officials, mostly from countries aligned with the U.S. or Israel. It includes Trump allies Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner (again), Tony Blair, and financiers like Marc Rowan – none known for humanitarian compassion. It also features representatives from a few regional states: Reem Al Hashimy (a UAE minister), Hakan Fidan (Turkey’s foreign minister), a Qatari envoy, an Egyptian general, Nickolay Mladenov (a UN diplomat), and even Yakir Gabay, an Israeli billionaire. In effect, the occupier’s friend and the supposed neutral intermediaries will “advise” on running Gaza, while actual Gazans have zero say.
Trump has further extended invitations to various heads of state to join this scheme, from Jordan’s King Abdullah and Egypt’s President Sisi to European and even Latin American leaders. Touting inclusivity, he has courted far-right figures like Hungary’s Viktor Orbán and Italy’s Giorgia Meloni for this council. (What do ultranationalists with Islamophobic and colonial mindsets know about Palestinian freedom? Absolutely nothing – which is exactly the point.)
This is how Trump’s “peace” plan works. It is a pyramid with Trump enthroned at the top, his lieutenants and a few token regional partners in the middle, and PA puppets at the bottom as mere administrative tools. Washington even pushed a UN Security Council resolution to authorize this arrangement through 2027, trying to give a veneer of legitimacy to what is essentially an imperial trusteeship over Gaza. It’s clear that this plan is colonialism repackaged for the 21st century. Trump’s Board would “supervise Gaza’s governance” like a mandatory power controlling a protectorate. As several rights experts have noted, this setup “resembles a colonial structure”, with foreign powers overseeing a conquered territory’s administration. Even the inclusion of Tony Blair, a man reviled in the Middle East for orchestrating the invasion of Iraq in 2003, underscores the imperial arrogance at play. Now he resurfaces as a warden of Gaza? It’s beyond insulting.
Perhaps the most outrageous aspect of this “Board of Peace” is the total exclusion of Palestinian political will. Who appointed Donald Trump as viceroy of Gaza? Who gave America the right to decide Gaza’s fate? Certainly not the people of Gaza. Not one representative of the Palestinian resistance or civil society sits on Trump’s board. The very inhabitants of Gaza, 2 million Palestinians, overwhelmingly Muslim, have no seat, no vote, and no voice in a plan that will dictate their lives. This is imperialism imposed upon the people of Palestine, to crush our leadership and cement Zionism’s colonial rule.
It treats Palestinians as incapable of governing themselves and in need of overlords. This is racist imperialist nonsense. The reality is that Gaza’s people, resourceful, educated, and resilient, would govern themselves just fine if only the occupier and its enablers lifted their boot off Gaza’s neck.
